Two men were found dead in a mini-truck in Banihal on Sunday along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which was opened to vehicles stranded bound for Kashmir after being closed for a day due to snowfall, reported indicated officials.

The 270 km highway was cleared Sunday afternoon for vehicles bound for Kashmir, they said.

Shabir Ahmad Mir (22) and Majid Gulzar Mir (30), both residents of Kralpora village in Kupwara district, were on their way to Srinagar but found themselves stranded after snowfall around the Jawahar tunnel which forced closing the highway early on Saturday, officials said. . They said the duo were found unconscious inside their vehicle on Sunday morning and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were both pronounced dead. It was not immediately clear whether they had died of a severe cold or asphyxiation, they said.
