The incident came a day after a man wanted for shooting at occupied US 281 from a northern San Antonio overpass was shot and killed.

Two men were killed and a woman and a San Antonio police officer were injured in a shooting Friday following a routine traffic stop.

At around 11:30 a.m., an officer stopped a van with three occupants for undetermined reason on a street on the west side of town, Police Chief William McManus said.

The officer’s body camera recorded a few minutes of what appeared to be an informal conversation between the officer and the occupants of the truck until the driver flashed a handgun and shot the officer in his hand , said McManus.

The officer retaliated by withdrawing, killing the driver and a passenger and injuring a female passenger, he said.

“The officer is very lucky to be alive, to be shot at this close range,” said McManus.

None of the identities of those involved have been revealed. The woman was taken to hospital, where her condition was not known.
