A first-instance court has extended the custody at the Narcotics Control Board (NCB) of former famous manager Rahila Furniturewala and British national Karan Sajnani by three days. The duo were arrested by the agency on Saturday in connection with a 200 kg drug seizure case.

They were brought to court after the end of their custody with the NCB. The prosecution who requested their further detention on Tuesday told the court the two were not cooperating with the investigations and that payments had been made from Furniturewala’s account which they were to investigate. He further told the court that the marijuana appeared to be imported, an aspect that needs to be investigated.

The court granted bail on Monday Rahila’s sister, Shaista, who was also arrested on Saturday.

The trio had been arrested after the seizure of 200 kilograms of high-quality marijuana which the agency claimed sold for Rs. 5,000 per gram and was sold in parcel form. The drugs were imported illegally, he said, and called the seizure one of the biggest seizures in recent times.

The agency team had detected a suspicious package from a courier in Bandra West. It contained marijuana. In a follow-up operation, NCB officers claimed to have found a huge stockpile of goods imported from Khar resident and businessman Karan Sajnani.

It was during Sajnani’s disclosure, the agency said, that Rahila Furniturewala came to be arrested. Rahila was the BCN suspect in the drugs case linked to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and had been named by an accused in the case who was found with commercial quantities of drugs. Rahila’s sister, Shaista, was arrested because she too was allegedly found in possession of a small amount of drugs.
