Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Praveen Jayavikrama took six wickets in his debut to dismiss Bangladesh at 251 and put the hosts in a strong position on the third day of the second Test on Saturday.

Jayavikrama has a modest record in first class cricket in place of injured Lasith Ambulanceia, but impressed by six wickets for 92 runs gave Sri Lanka a lead in the first innings of 242 runs.

He was supported by off-spinner Ramesh Mendis who took two wickets.

Sri Lanka took the new ball as soon as it was available and Suranga Lakmal polished the tail with the last two wickets in two consecutive overs.

Sri Lanka batting first scored 493 runs for seven wickets and scored 17 runs for two wickets.

The first Test in a two-match series ended in a draw.
