President Joe Biden will sign two executive orders relating to women’s economic equity on Monday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.
Psaki, speaking at the daily press conference on Friday, did not elaborate on the decree but promised to provide details over the weekend.
Biden has made women’s issues a priority, handing over key White House positions and jobs to women and creating a Gender Policy Council, based in the White House and charged with ensuring that all agencies and all departments take women’s issues into account when formulating policy.
As a candidate, Biden pledged to reduce the gender pay gap, invest in women-owned businesses and fight discrimination in the workplace.
Its vice-president, Kamala Harris, is the first woman to hold the post.
