In a latest development in the ongoing vaccination campaign, the Center will provide nearly 60 doses of lakh Covid-19 vaccine to states over the next three days to vaccinate people over the age of 45. The third phase of the vaccination campaign began on May 1 and also includes inoculation of people aged 18 to 44 years.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare said states and union territories will receive 59.7 lakh doses free of charge within three days. The central government has so far provided 16.54 crore in doses to the states. Of this total, the total consumption, including waste, is 15,79,21,537 doses. According to the data, over 75 doses of lakh vaccine (75, 71,873) are still available with the states / UT to administer.

Maharashtra is closest to exhaustion with just over 23,000 doses in stock. The central government has 10.5 lakh doses for Maharashtra in its supply pipeline. To date, the state has used 1,638,923 vaccines for inoculation, which also included counting wasted doses.

Besides Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Telangana and Karnataka are among those who have less than 1 lakh of doses.
