Senior diplomats from China, Germany, France, Russia and Britain resumed talks on Saturday to bring the United States back to its historic nuclear deal with Iran.

The United States will not have a representative at the table when diplomats meet in Vienna because former President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the country from the agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, in 2018.

US President Joe Biden wants to join the deal, however, and an American delegation in Vienna is participating in indirect talks with Iran, with diplomats from other world powers acting as intermediaries.

The Biden administration plans to roll back some of the tougher sanctions in a bid to bring Iran back into compliance with the terms of the nuclear deal, according to reports from current and former US officials.
