Akhtar said an update regarding the film’s new release date will be released “in due course”. The 47-year-old actor also urged people to follow all COVID-19 guidelines and get vaccinated.
Presented as an inspirational sports drama about a street jerk in Dongri, “Toofaan” is set against a boxing backdrop and traces the fall and triumphant return of his lead role, played by Akhtar.
The film also features Paresh Rawal, Mrunal Thakur, Supriya Pathak Kapur and Hussain Dalal.
The project marks the second collaboration between Akhtar and Mehra after “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, the 2013 biopic about legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh.
