The Indian men’s hockey team’s competitive international assignments ahead of the Tokyo Olympics are effectively over.

Upcoming FIH Hockey Pro League away games against Spain and Germany, scheduled for May 15-16 and May 22-23 respectively, have been officially postponed due to COVID-induced travel restrictions .

“The FIH, Hockey India as well as the national associations of Germany, Spain and Great Britain are currently examining all potential options to revamp these matches at a later date,” the International Hockey Federation said in a statement.

Matches against Great Britain, originally scheduled for London on May 8 and 9, have also been postponed, with India’s only remaining international assignment ahead of the Tokyo Olympics to be home Pro League matches against New Zealand. -Zeeland May 29th and 30th. But while the FIH has not officially canceled them, the games have already been marked as postponed on its website.

Many countries have suspended flights from India following the second wave of the pandemic, with Germany being one of them.

If these relationships are not postponed until Tokyo, which seems highly unlikely at this time given the massive surge in COVID cases in the country, the men will likely train at home until they leave for the Games.
