Former high-level MP Sapam Kunjakishor, alias Keba, and his family escaped unharmed in a hand grenade and an automatic gun attack on his home in the western Imphal neighborhood on Tuesday evening.

Police sources said a case had been recorded and efforts were underway to arrest the attackers.

Police said people in cars threw a Chinese-made hand grenade at his house at 8 p.m. Not having exploded, they opened fire with automatic pistols and escaped into the vehicles.

Police and bomb experts rushed to the scene and safely removed the grenade for disposal. So far, no rebel group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, police and Assam Rifles staff caught a Kuki National Front insurgent with a gun from Noney District. He was identified as J. Haokip.
