Only voice call services are retained.

The Haryana government on Wednesday suspended telecommunications services (2G / 3G / 4G / CDMA / GPRS), all SMS services (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services, etc. provided on mobile networks with the exception of voice calls in the territorial jurisdiction of Sonipat, Palwal and Jhajjar until 5 p.m. on January 28.

The ordinance was issued to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of these three districts and will be effective with immediate effect.

An official spokesperson said the suspension was ordered under rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunications Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Regulations 2017.

The spokesperson said that the state government has decided to suspend internet services in order to stop the spread of disinformation and rumors through various social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, etc. on mobile phones and SMS, for the facilitation and mobilization of crowds of agitators and protesters who can cause serious loss of life and damage public and private property by engaging in arson or vandalism and other types of violent activity.
