Haseeb Hameed celebrated his return to the England Test team with a century on the second day of the warm-up match between County Select XI and Indians here on Wednesday. Opener Haseeb hit 13 fours in his innings of 112 off 246 balls as the hosts posted 206 for seven in reply to the visiting team’s 311.
Haseeb, who shared a 75-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Lyndon James (27), was caught by KL Rahul off Shardul Thakur. Washington Sundar, batting at number four, was dismissed for one by Mohammad Siraj.
Umesh Yadav took 3 wickets for 22 runs in 15 overs. The pacer beautifully cast County Select captain Will Rhodes. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja took a wicket each.
Kohli returns to the nets
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, who was ruled out of the practice game due to a swallow, was back in the nets and involved in a full-fledged batting session.
Shubman Gill, who was ruled out of the Test series against England, has returned home with a calf injury. He is expected to visit the NCA in Bengaluru for rehabilitation.
