Cooking oils are fats and, like proteins, carbohydrates, and vitamins, are very important macronutrients. Cooking oil generally consists of 3 types of fatty acids: monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and saturated fatty acids (SFA). According to guidelines from the National Institute of Nutrition, healthy oils should have a good balance of the three fatty acids. Most of the single grain cooking oils available in India that we normally use are unfortunately high in MUFAs or PUFAs.

This is the reason why doctors and nutritionists ask you to keep changing your oil. But unfortunately, simply switching between different oils without understanding the fatty acid levels of each oil won’t help you get the benefits you’re looking for.

A great way to easily get the right balance of MUFAs and PUFAs is to use mixed oils. Blending is a scientific process that cannot be done at home by simply blending oils; the oils are carefully chosen in proportions that are scientifically tested so that we get the benefits of the individual oils as well as the right fatty acid profile.
