Fighting through Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur, India scored 336 runs in their first innings, helping Australia score just 33 on the third day of the fourth Test of the series here on Sunday.

Washington (62) and Thakur (67) added 123 runs for the seventh wicket after India lost four wickets.

Australia had to negotiate the first six overs before the stumps, with the hosts scoring 21 runs in their second innings, with openers David Warner (20) and Marcus Harris (1) barely piling on 54 runs with the help of Indian bowlers. .

Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane (37) went on a lucrative drive from Mitchell Starc after scoring 62 for two and ended up taking a catch at the slip cordon. Before his dismissal, Cheteshwar Pujara (25) was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood in the opening session.

In the second season, India lost Mayank Agarwal (38) and youngster Rishabh Pant (23) and the innings looked faltering, but Washington and Thakur resisted the Australian invasion.

Thakur’s combative knock came to an end when Pat Cummins passed through his gates while Washington dismissed Stark in the final session.
