All standards are met at Palghar station where the Covid isolation coaches are kept, Western Railway (WR) said on Sunday.

WR was reacting to a letter written by Dahanu Vaitarna Pravasi Sevabhavi Sanstha (DVPSS) to the collector, general manager and divisional manager of the railways on May 7, alleging that the standards were being flouted.

The doors of those coaches where Covid patients have been kept have been locked from the outside, government railroad police said.

The letter written by DVPSS, a registered passenger association, alleged that the patients of these Covid coaches were not meeting standards and that there was a need for barricades at the station. The association had also posted the letter on social networks. WR authorities said on Sunday that, to date, three Covid patients brought in by the district administration have been held in solitary confinement and undergoing treatment in these trainers.

“The Western Railway provided all essential facilities for Covid patients in these isolation coaches as per guidelines. All isolation protocols are followed to curb the spread of Corona and every effort is also made for patient comfort. The coach isolation rake was placed on the platform with appropriate barricades and was appropriately buckled to safely separate passengers and patients, ”said Sumit Thakur, PRO Leader, WR.

These barricades consist of asbestos sheets and green fabrics used in scaffolding. “The complaint we made is genuine. The majority of coaches in this isolation train have still not been barricaded, ”said Mahesh Patil, member of DVPSS. Currently, three patients are being treated by a doctor and two paramedics.

“He had come to notice that the Covid patients inside had ordered food from the canteen there and so we complained to WR authorities about the same. As a result, the doors of these coaches were locked from the outside, ”said Yogesh Devre, Senior Researcher Palghar, GRP.
