Nagda (Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh): Amid the prevailing pandemic where corona patients are losing their lives due to unavailability of oxygen, the local administration has issued a controversial order.
On instructions from the district administration, Division Deputy Magistrate Ashutosh Goswami prohibited local residents from filling oxygen cylinders from private sources. This sparked outrage from elected officials, social organizations and members of Congress who warned against protesting if the decision is not withdrawn.
About 500 patients infected with the novel coronavirus and other illnesses receive treatment at home in the absence of medical facilities. Social workers like Saluja Brothers provide free oxygen to patients with respiratory problems. In recent days, they have supplied oxygen to more than 200 people in town, but on Saturday they refused to fill the oxygen cylinders following orders from SDM.
