Swabs taken from three dead crows in Pachchanady were sent to the Southern Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologics Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Hebbal, Bengaluru, for testing for suspected influenza infection avian H5N8.
The crows were found dead by the side of the road leading to Nirashritara Kendra in Pachhanady on Monday morning. Residents informed the district administration. Staff from the Department of Livestock collected the carcasses for autopsies. Swabs from the lungs were collected and sent to SRDDL. The death appears to be due to enteritis, sources say.
A few days ago, the carcass of a raven, among the four found dead at a crows resting place in Manjanady, was sent to the SRDDL. It was found negative for H5N8. SRDDL will perform a toxicology test to determine the cause of death of the crows.
