This comes amid reports of a growing number of infections within the capital’s diplomatic community.
A Tanzanian official based here has become the first foreign diplomat to die from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tanzania High Commission has announced that Colonel Dr. Moses Beatus Mlula, Tanzania’s Defense Advisor in India, died on April 28 at the Delhi Cantt Base Hospital.
The High Commission has opened a condolence book which is currently available online in view of the pandemic. The Tanzanian mission’s announcement comes amid reports of a growing number of COVID-19 infections within the capital’s diplomatic community.
Over the weekend, the New Zealand and Philippine missions requested oxygen support from the Indian Youth Congress. This was followed by the Ministry of External Affairs announcing that the Indian side was providing the necessary medical support to diplomats based here.
Some countries have started to evacuate diplomats for health reasons. The Thai government sent an air ambulance last week to evacuate several diplomats.
