Bandra police arrested two people hours after allegedly firing two bullets at a Bandra promoter on Saturday. The developer, who managed to retrieve a cartridge on the spot, approached the cops, which led to their arrest. The developer and the accused knew each other. The alleged shooting incident took place as a result of a monetary dispute, but no one was injured in the shooting, police said.
According to police, the promoter took Rs 45 lakh from the defendants Faiyyaz Qureshi and Farhan Azgar Sayyad in January of this year at an interest rate of 10%. However, due to the foreclosure he was unable to pay the interest. Meanwhile, the developer and his family also contracted COVID-19, which made it difficult for the developer, police said.
As the loan on him increased, the developer ceded possession of one of his apartments to Sayyaad on a large deposit. Police said the developer was asking for time, however, the defendants were not in the mood to listen.
According to the developer’s statement, on Saturday he and a relative went to meet the accused at his apartment which was in Sayyad’s possession. However, when he asked for more time, an argument arose and Farhan allegedly fired two shots near him, the developer said in his statement.
Fortunately, he was not injured in the incident. The developer was only allowed to go after agreeing to hand over the papers for his current project to Malwani.
According to police, the developer managed to take a cartridge and as soon as he arrived at his home in Pali Hill, Bandra, he contacted the police hotline. Once there, the police took the cartridge and the two accused in their custody.
As a result of the incident the two were arrested under IPC section 504 (intentional insult with intent to cause breach of the peace) 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) with sections of the law on guns, police said.
The developer, however, said his life was in danger and the police had failed to enforce strict provisions.
According to the police, the accused and the promoter knew each other and used to deal with each other for a few years. Qureshi has an air conditioning repair shop in Bandra, while Sayyad has also loaned the victim money twice in the past.
