Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, who has started to lose his political base in the northern districts, has chosen to resume “caste politics”, accused the state chairman of the Bharatiya Janata party, L. Murugan.
Speaking to the media here on Friday after he crowned the BR Ambedkar statue in the city, he said the VCK men were after the BJP cadres for a while in Madurai.

“Madurai police should arrest the accused and take appropriate action. Otherwise, we will organize demonstrations all over the state, ”he said, addressing the men in his party.
Stating that several VCK cadres in the northern districts were joining the BJP, Mr. Murugan said that since the party’s base declined, the VCK had returned to caste politics.
Listing several actions the BJP-led Center had taken in honor of Dr Ambedkar, Mr Murugan said the party had every right to garland the statue. He was responding to VCK cadres chasing BJP men who had gathered to garland the statue of Dr Ambedkar here on Wednesday.
He said it was the Narendra Modi government that awarded Bharat Ratna to the leader and made his birthday a public holiday. Five memorials had been built by the BJP government for the chief. In addition, the Centre’s digital payment app was named after the ruler as Bhim, and a university in Madhya Pradesh was named after him.
