Every year on April 7, World Health Day is celebrated. The World Health Organization (WHO) launched the World Health Day campaign at its first Health Assembly in 1948 and brought it into effect in 1950 with the aim of raising awareness about physical health and mental health and provide the necessary support. The motive for World Health Day was to make people understand the importance of universal health coverage.

World Health Day is held to mark the founding of WHO and is seen as an opportunity by the organization to bring worldwide attention to a topic of major importance to global health each year.

The theme for World Health Day 2021 is “Building a fairer and healthier world”. Declaring our world to be unequal, the WHO said the COVID-19 pandemic has shown how some people can have better access to health services and live healthier lives than others.

On World Health Day 2021, WHO is emphasizing that the suffering and illnesses some groups face are preventable.

The organization proposed four major steps to achieve its goal. They work together, collect reliable data, tackle inequalities and act across borders.

Several articles on health inequalities are also available on the World Health Day 2021 page of the WHO website.
